Out-of-home coffee consumption is up, according to the latest NCA National Coffee Drinking Trends Report (NCDT).
34% of consumers drank coffee out-of-home in 2016, up from 30% in 2015. The increase is driven by foodservice, particularly the “café/coffee shop/donut shop” category.
And in general, out-of-home coffee consumption skews younger.
According to NCDT data, “50% of those aged 18-24 and 51% of those aged 25-39 who drank coffee yesterday drank coffee out-of-home. This compares to 42% among those aged 40-59 and 16% among those aged 60+.”
Millennials and young adults are more likely get their coffee out-of-home, and show greater interest in trying new beverages – such as cold brew.
