What does Kaneland do?

Kaneland is a mobile application development company. Our first product, Nack, is a smartphone app which allows users to share their coffee and beverage preferences while learning more about their friends’ ideal cup of coffee. With Nack, it’s easy to treat your friend, a business prospect/meeting, your boss, or even the whole office to a cup of coffee just the way they like it.

What drives your passion for this industry?

Everybody loves coffee, and our lives are centered so much around it. You conduct business around coffee, you socialize around coffee and often share intimate moments with someone over a cup of Joe. We set out to improve the “coffee run” and make it more exciting, modern and fun. By building a social platform around this already positive experience, we’re able to take something great and make it even better.

The best part of working in coffee is: Knowing that something so small can say so much. The very act of sharing coffee is so simple and social; it’s the easiest way to make someone’s day.

What’s your coffee philosophy?

Everyone deserves a cup of coffee made just the way they like it.

What’s your perfect cup of coffee?

I may love coffee, but exactly how I love it changes depending on the day. On a hot and muggy summer day, I love a French vanilla iced coffee with one Splenda sweetener. On a frigidly cold, winter day? Nothing beats a steaming cup of hot, hazelnut coffee with just a splash of milk.

Why did you join the NCA?

At Kaneland, we are out to change the way people think and feel about coffee. It’s more than just a morning routine; it has the power to bring people together. With Nack, we have the opportunity to gather incredible data about consumers and their coffee choices and share that with NCA coffee retailers and others who could benefit from that information. We want to support, inform and advocate for the coffee industry, connecting coffee leaders with coffee drinkers.

What sets your organization apart?

Kaneland has created the first “mobile social network” built around coffee. By providing the tools for coffee-drinkers to share their preferences in an easy, social environment, we are not only automating the coffee run, we are enabling people to act on impulse and do something kind for their friends and colleagues.
